About Rock and Roll..
Influences in Rock and Roll....
Those who don't listen to Ska and Punk Rock often have great misconceptions about what this kind of music stands for. If you don't know already, this music has it's roots in the Roots and Reggae movements of the 50's and 60's. Rancid paid tribute to Desmond Dekker in their song "Roots Radicals" -- "the radio was playin', Desmond Dekker was singin' on the 43 bus as we climbed up the hill". Blondie's song "Heart of Glass" was originally mixed as a straight up reggae song. The version of that song we all love from the radio was remixed and became an 80's dance club smash. While it is arguable whether that song would have gotten the same attention had it been released as originally recorded, there is no denying it's beginning as a reggae song.

Making the Grade...
The world is full of one hit wonders. Who can forget Deep Blue Something's "Breakfast at Tiffany's"? Legendary Rockers Spinal Tap ended up in the "where are they now?" file in their own movie! What sets some groups apart when so many others end up in the bargain bin?
